For the last few days Aura was badgering me about Guristas data sites in hi-sec. For some reason, she couldn’t get the datacores, or rather a lack thereof, out of her mind. If she were any old navigational AI, I would have sent her to the repair shop. But since it was my Aura…

I sighed and gave up, “Okay what exactly do you want me to do?” Continue reading “Lonetrek Exploration”

“Look what we’ve got here,” I said, having finished scanning Nourvukaiken system. “There are two sites which I have never seen before. Which one shall we visit first?”

The probe scanner revealed Local Guristas Production Installation and Rogue Drone Asteroid Infestation.

“Since we are flying a Buzzard, I would suggest to go to the Guristas place first,” replied Aura.

I looked at Aura with surprise, “Don’t good manners, to say nothing about common sense, dictate that one should fly a combat ship when visiting a den of pirates?” Continue reading “Rogue Drone Asteroid Infestation”

Eighth Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects

For the last week or so something was nagging me at the back of my mind. I couldn’t put a finger on it until today, when I browsed the contents of my cargo hangar. There it was – 8th Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects (OPE). After destroying Radiating Telescope at Guristas Scout Outpost, I discovered a bunch of Pithum C-Type modules which cost a small fortune. The overseer’s personal effects were found in the remains of the telescope too but, as you can imagine, they were just a sideshow at that time. Now that my excitement about getting richer by half a billion ISK subsided, I remembered a curious case of 7th Tier OPE which I extracted from a Guristas Frigate wreck some time ago. The effects contained an intact datapad which required an ID and a key for access. I didn’t find a key last time but I wondered if I would be lucky today. In fact, I also got another set of 7th Tier OPE from the Outpost so my chances of finding something interesting doubled. Continue reading “Eighth Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects”

Seventh Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects

I hoped to have a word with Purkkoken today but he was incommunicado. As there was no prospect of a new mission, I decided to busy myself with a stocktake of the loot I got during Okela constellation clean-up, which was still in Merimetso’s hold. There was a lot of useless Tech 1 stuff, with sporadic highlights like an Enduring Multispectrum Shield Hardener. Most of the modules I marked for sale, but decided to keep a few interesting ones and all the ammo.

Eventually I came to the last heap which I extracted from the Overseer Frigate. There was a Worm blueprint which I decided to keep, and a cannon and some metal scraps which I intended to sell. I looked curiously at the last crate which was identified as 7th Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects. On the top of the crate I could see a motley collection of objects: a wad of kredits, probably counterfeit; a few bottles of wine; holo-reels; and a datapad. I picked up the pad and examined it – the device looked pretty ordinary. I considered a possibility that it could be booby-trapped, but after some thought dismissed it as unlikely, and switched the datapad on. The screen lit up and, after a brief boot sequence, displayed a message:

Welcome, Overseer. Please identify yourself. Continue reading “Seventh Tier Overseer’s Personal Effects”

The Mystery of the Datacore

I was standing in Haikarat’s cargo hold and inspecting the loot I got from two data sites.

“So which ones are those famous Villard Wheels?” asked I.

Aura who looked through CCTV cameras replied, “It’s those cylindrical things on the top of the pile.”

Indeed, there were four wheel-like objects, about a metre in diameter, which were badly damaged.

I scowled and said sceptically, “Hmm, they look pretty battered. Why would anyone want them?” Continue reading “The Mystery of the Datacore”
